Back at Bryn Alyn: More Hair, Beauty and a Little Self-Care!
We're back at Ysgol Bryn Alyn for another term of Health & Beauty sessions as part of their Extended School Day programme. We are really pleased to be back at Ysgol Bryn Alyn this term, delivering another round of Health & Beauty sessions as part of the school's Extended School Day programme.
After such a positive experience working with the students earlier this year, it has been lovely to return and continue offering practical, creative activities that give young people the chance to try something different, learn new skills and have a bit of fun along the way.
We've now completed our first three sessions, and there has already been plenty of creativity, experimenting and some lovely things being made!
Getting Creative with Hair
We kicked things off by welcoming back Renia from Hair by Renia, who led a hands-on hairstyling workshop.
Students had the opportunity to explore different braiding techniques, work with synthetic hair and create their own bubble braid extensions.
There was plenty to learn, particularly for those trying these techniques for the first time. It was great to see students having a go, practising their skills and getting more confident as the session went on.

A Little Scalp Care and Relaxation
For our second session, we moved from hairstyling to looking after our hair and scalp, with students making their own scalp scrubs.
We explored why scalp care is important and how taking a little time for ourselves can be beneficial for our overall wellbeing.
Students got stuck into making their own products, learning about the different ingredients and creating something they could take home and use.
We also introduced some Indian head massage techniques, giving students the opportunity to learn about relaxation and how massage can form part of a self-care routine.
What we particularly like about these sessions is that they are not just about hair and beauty. They also give us an opportunity to introduce conversations about wellbeing, looking after ourselves and developing practical skills that young people can use beyond the classroom.

Homemade Hand Creams and Massage
Our third session was all about caring for our hands.
Students made their own natural hand creams using ingredients including shea butter, coconut butter and essential oils.
They were able to get involved in the whole process, from mixing the ingredients to creating their finished creams.
We also explored some simple hand and arm massage techniques, giving students another opportunity to learn something new while thinking about relaxation and self-care.
There was plenty of enthusiasm throughout the session, and it was lovely to see everyone getting involved and enjoying the activities.

More Than Just Hair and Beauty
One of the things we really enjoy about delivering these sessions is seeing how much young people can gain from having the opportunity to try something new.
Not everyone will have had the chance to experiment with hairstyling, make their own beauty products or learn massage techniques before. By making the sessions practical and accessible, we hope to encourage students to have a go without worrying about getting everything perfect.
There is also something really positive about being able to make something yourself and take it home at the end of a session.
Whether it is a new hairstyle, a scalp scrub or a pot of hand cream, students can see what they have achieved and hopefully feel proud of what they have created.
The sessions also give us opportunities to explore different interests and introduce young people to skills they might want to develop further in the future.
Looking Forward to the Rest of the Term
We still have more sessions to come, with plenty of opportunities for students to explore different aspects of hair, beauty and wellbeing.
A big thank you to Ysgol Bryn Alyn for welcoming us back and continuing to provide these opportunities for their students. We have really enjoyed being part of the Extended School Day programme again.
We are looking forward to seeing what everyone creates next!
