A Rare Night Out Together at the Mayor’s Ball
The Done Together directors swapped project bags and practical clothes for a rare evening out together at the Mayor’s Ball, supporting Dynamic Wrexham at Eaton Hall.

Most of the time, when the Done Together directors are in the same room, there is a job to do.
There are projects to plan, materials to prepare, budgets to check and decisions to make. Even when we meet somewhere lovely, at least one of us usually has a bag full of paperwork, equipment or things needed for a workshop.
The Mayor’s Ball was different.
It gave us an excuse to dress up, leave the project bags at home and spend an evening together as a team without an agenda on the table.
That does not happen very often.
A change from our usual uniform
Running a young CIC means moving quickly between very different roles.
One day we might be delivering a workshop, the next we are writing a funding application, sorting insurance or trying to fit materials into the back of a car. Our usual Done Together uniform is far more likely to involve trainers and practical clothes than dresses and heels.
Getting ready for the Mayor’s Ball felt like a proper occasion.
The event was held at Eaton Hall, which made it feel even more special. We had the chance to enjoy the surroundings, have photographs taken while everyone still looked presentable and spend time together without watching the clock for the next activity.
Of course, we still talked about Done Together. We are apparently incapable of being in the same place without discussing a project idea at some point.
But the conversations were different. There were no decisions that had to be made before the end of the evening and nobody was trying to solve a last-minute delivery problem over dinner.
Supporting an important local cause
The evening was also an opportunity to support Dynamic Wrexham and its campaign to raise money for a much-needed minibus.
Dynamic provides activities, opportunities and support for children and young people with disabilities. Reliable, accessible transport can make an enormous difference to whether young people are able to take part in activities and experiences outside their usual environment.
It was brilliant to see so many people come together to support that work, while enjoying the entertainment and atmosphere of the ball.
Events like this are social, but they also remind us how much is happening across Wrexham. Community organisations are constantly finding ways to raise money, create opportunities and keep essential services going.
Time together matters too
The night made us realise that spending time together socially is not an indulgence. It helps.
Done Together has been built through meetings, messages, shared documents and a lot of learning as we go. We each bring different experiences and opinions, which is one of our strengths, but teamwork is about more than completing tasks.
Sometimes it is useful to sit together, have a laugh and remember that we actually enjoy one another’s company.
The Mayor’s Ball gave us the chance to celebrate an important local cause, meet people from across Wrexham and enjoy a rare evening together as directors.
We returned to the usual emails, planning and project bags soon afterwards.
For one night, though, we got dressed up and left the extension leads at home.
