Hair We Go! We’ve Secured Trailblazer Funding

We are excited to announce that Done Together CIC has received Communities for Work+ Trailblazer funding for our new Hair We Go! project, helping people build practical haircare skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.

We are really happy to share some exciting news. Done Together CIC has received Communities for Work+ Trailblazer funding to deliver our new Hair We Go! project.

So, what is Hair We Go?

Hair We Go! is all about giving people practical haircare skills that can make everyday life that little bit easier.

The idea came from thinking about parents, grandparents, partners and carers who might find themselves responsible for somebody else’s hair, but have never actually been shown what to do.

For some people, things like knowing which products to use, how to section hair or even how to start a simple plait can feel a bit daunting. We want to take away some of that worry and create a relaxed space where people can learn, practise and ask questions.

The session will be open to people aged 16+ who care for a child, partner or family member, with a particular focus on encouraging dads, grandads and men who might not usually see this type of workshop advertised for them.

Learning by doing

We definitely do not want this to be a session where people just sit and listen.

Participants will have the chance to get hands-on and practise different skills using training heads, including combing, sectioning and plaiting hair.

We will also look at things like hair porosity, scalp and hair health and simple DIY hair products, helping people understand a little more about why different hair types might need different things.

And importantly, nobody needs to arrive knowing what they are doing!

The whole point is to create an informal and friendly environment where people can have a go, make mistakes, ask questions and hopefully leave feeling much more confident.

More than learning about hair

As with many of our projects, Hair We Go! is not only about the activity itself.

We also want it to be an opportunity for people to get out of the house, meet others and spend some time learning something new in a relaxed environment.

Sometimes a practical skill can be a really simple way of bringing people together and starting conversations.

If somebody leaves knowing how to do a plait they could not do before, brilliant. If they also leave having met somebody new, feeling a little more confident or knowing something that makes their day-to-day caring role easier, even better.

What happens next?

Now that the funding has been confirmed, we can start turning the idea into an actual session.

Over the coming weeks we will be working on the venue, haircare resources, training heads and bringing in a local hair professional to help us deliver the practical side of the workshop.

We will also be sharing information about when and where Hair We Go! will take place and how people can register.

We are really excited to get started with this one and to see where it could go next. If people enjoy the first session, we would love to explore opportunities for more practical workshops in the future, including developing skills such as different plaiting and braiding techniques.

For now though, we are just really pleased to be able to say...
