Proud to Become a Wrecsam2029 Ambassador

We were genuinely proud to share that Done Together CIC had become a Wrecsam2029 Ambassador.
It might have looked like a simple social media announcement, but for us it meant more than adding a badge to our profile. We were already working with Wrecsam2029 through the Youth Forum, helping young people understand the bid and, more importantly, creating ways for them to influence it.
Becoming an ambassador felt like a natural next step.
Why we are supporting the bid
Wrecsam’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2029 is a huge opportunity, but only if local people feel part of it.
A cultural bid cannot be built only around major venues, polished performances and the people who already know how to get involved. It needs to make room for communities, young people, families and smaller organisations who might not automatically see themselves represented.
Done Together was created to work with communities, not simply deliver things to them. We listen, shape ideas together and try to make participation realistic for people who might otherwise be left out.
The ambassador role gives us another way to support that work. We can share opportunities, encourage people to get involved and help make the bid feel less like something happening behind closed doors.
We can also be honest when something needs to be more accessible, more inclusive or explained more clearly. Supporting the bid should not mean agreeing with everything automatically. It should mean caring enough to ask questions.
Keeping young people close to the conversation
Our work with the Wrecsam2029 Youth Forum is a big part of why this matters to us.
Young people notice different things. They talk about the places they actually spend time, what makes them feel welcome and what stops them from joining in. They are also very quick to spot when something has been designed by adults who have not asked them first.
The Youth Forum is not there to give the bid a youthful stamp of approval. It should influence the thinking behind it.
As an ambassador, we want to keep connecting young people with the people shaping Wrecsam2029. That means creating relaxed spaces where ideas can develop, but also making sure those ideas reach meetings and decision-makers.
There is no point asking for youth voice if nobody is prepared to act on it.
Culture is already happening here
Culture is not only theatre, galleries and large public events, although those things matter. It is also music, food, language, sport, gaming, crafts, fashion, family traditions and the creative activities happening in schools and community spaces every week.
Through our work, we meet people who are already creating culture without necessarily using that word. Young carers planning events. Children learning about Afro hair. Families making things together. Young people talking about their city while working with clay or watching local theatre.
Those experiences deserve to be part of Wrecsam’s story.
Wrecsam does not need to invent a cultural identity. It needs to notice, connect and celebrate the one that already exists.
Done Together is still a young CIC, so becoming an ambassador means a great deal. We know we are one small part of a much bigger effort, but our route into that effort is clear: practical projects, youth voice, creativity and honest conversations.
We are proud to support Wrecsam2029.
More than that, we want communities to do more than watch the journey. They should help decide where it goes.
