Start-Up Business Grant from Wrexham Council secured to get Done Together CIC off the ground

Done Together CIC (Done Together) has been awarded nearly £1,500 through Wrexham County Borough Council’s Shared Prosperity Fund Enhanced Business Start-up Clinic Grant. This funding will help us put the practical foundations in place to run the organisation day-to-day, so we can deliver our new services across North Wales and the border regions, supporting local people, groups and businesses to turn ideas into action.

As part of the competitive process, Done Together took part in a Dragon’s Den–style pitch with a panel of business experts at the council. The team submitted a full business plan and financial forecast and took part in a detailed Q&A session before being awarded the grant.

The panel-based format meant the council could look closely at the strength of the idea, the purpose behind the business and the long-term plan.

Learning, networking and building confidence

Alongside the grant process, Done Together completed the Essential Professional Skills Course, held over a series of evenings in September. The training was delivered by The Uncommon Practice, a fast-growing Wrexham-based accountancy and advice firm known for offering practical, hands-on support to small businesses. Learning directly from a local company that has grown quickly in the area gave the course a real sense of relevance.

Natalie added:
“What the Essential Professional Skills Course offered us went beyond skills – it created connection. The content was high quality, but the real strength came from being in a room with other people building something from scratch. Early-stage businesses don’t just need funding; they need people around them who understand the challenges and the excitement. By pairing financial support with a space to learn together, the council has taken a more thoughtful and rounded approach. We left with better tools, but also with new relationships – including one business we’re already planning a future project with. That sense of collective progress sits at the heart of Done Together.”

What the grant will fund

This support helps us put the basics in place – the everyday tools a small organisation needs to work safely, professionally and confidently. With these foundations set, we can focus on what matters most: helping people, groups and businesses across North Wales and the border regions bring their ideas to life.

The grant will support essential digital, operational and promotional tools, including:

  • Microsoft accounts and business email

  • DBS checks for all Directors

  • Virtual landline

  • Email newsletter platform

  • Five sets of business cards

  • Public liability, trustee indemnity and professional indemnity insurance

  • Branded event materials (display table, tablecloth, banners)

  • ICO Data Protection Fee.

Together, these items mean Done Together can start off with the professionalism, safety and credibility expected of a modern community-focused organisation.

Natalie Edwards, Lead Director, said: “This grant gives us the tools we need to start strong. Done Together CIC was created to help people and organisations do more than they can alone, and this support means we can build the foundations needed to deliver that mission. It’s a real boost to have Wrexham Council backing us from the very beginning.”

What’s next

With this support in place, Done Together will begin rolling out its first services later this year, with more updates to come.
