Supporting Wrexham Foresters: Building confidence to tackle challenges on and off the pitch
Done Together CIC supported Wrexham Foresters with a bespoke confidence-building workshop focused on tackling verbal abuse, managing confrontation and strengthening positive club culture.

Done Together CIC is proud to share that our Lead Director, Natalie Edwards, developed and delivered a bespoke workshop for members of Wrexham Foresters Football Club in February. The session focused on helping players, coaches and support staff to feel more confident and prepared when dealing with verbal abuse and confrontations, on and off the pitch – a regrettable issue that the club has seen in its first season.
The workshop gave participants practical tools to understand what’s happening physically and emotionally when stressful incidents occur, plus strategies on how to manage their emotions and behaviour as a result. Natalie supported the group to build individual and group strategies on how to respond safely and confidently when incidents arise. Coaches, committee members and players also enjoyed the opportunity to discuss and co-create a statement and practical steps to create a safe and positive culture, on and off the pitch. The group discussed ways to strengthen their safeguarding policies and procedures and understand who to signpost players and staff to, when additional support is needed.
It was a one‑off session for now, but the feedback from players and staff has been incredibly positive, and we hope to continue this work with Wrexham Foresters and to offer similar sessions to other clubs, schools and youth organisations across the region.
A modern way of working and why it matters
This opportunity came to us through a referral from Zebra Marketing and Communications (Zebra), who provide communications support to Wrexham Foresters. It’s a brilliant example of how modern organisations increasingly work: through trusted networks, specialist referrals and collaboration between small, skilled teams.
When Zebra asked whether we knew someone who could help, Natalie stepped forward immediately, with her background in community engagement, governance and her recent training in Dialogic Organisational Development. She brings the kind of specialist insight, confidence and empathy that organisations increasingly look for when tackling sensitive issues like player safety and wellbeing.
As part of our preparation, we also reached out through our own networks. One of our directors, Sian Edwards, connected us with Fleur Flanagan – a local freelance specialist with experience in People and OD. Although Fleur didn’t deliver the workshop in the end, her early input helped shape the thinking, questions and content that ensured we had the right brief and a programme that would land well with the club. We’re grateful for her time and the constructive conversations behind the scenes. It’s another example of the power of people working together, emerging freelancers, SMEs and community organisations sharing their strengths for the benefit of others.
Wrexham Foresters is a community‑focused club with a strong commitment to player welfare, positive culture and youth development. Its willingness to bring in specialist support reflects a wider shift happening across Wales, where organisations choose partners based on expertise and cultural understanding, not size or main lane.
In Wales, 99% of all businesses are SMEs, and the way work gets done is changing. Instead of relying on large, one‑size‑fits‑all providers, organisations are turning to smaller, specialist teams who can offer work that is more personal, more relevant and more effective.
This is exactly why Done Together exists.
We were created to be part of this step‑change – to bring community‑rooted, culturally informed support into spaces that need it. When local SMEs connect their networks and share their strengths, the right people end up in the right rooms, delivering work that genuinely meets the needs of the community.
Our collaboration with Zebra Marketing, Wrexham Foresters and local freelancers like Fleur is a perfect example of that in action and we want to thank everyone involved in bringing this workshop to life for trusting and believing in us.
Looking ahead
We’re excited to build on this work. Abuse in sporting situations are challenges that sports people, regardless of age, across the UK are facing, and confidence‑buildingworkshops like this can make a real difference to how they cope, respond and feel supported.
If your club, school or organisation would benefit from a session like this, regardless of the topic or issues faced, we’d love to talk. Done Together CIC was created to help Wrexham rise together with confidence, compassion and community at the heart of everything we do and these workshops help to achieve this mission.
